Financial Education
The Center offers a free 8-week financial education program for community residents. Program participants will learn about the following topics (and more).
- Basic Banking
- Money Management/Budgeting
- Asset Planning
- Credit
- Bankruptcy
- Identity Protection
- Auto Purchase
- Basic Tax Preparation
Road to Home Ownership
The Center provides free home ownership classes and counseling to 1st time home buyers and existing homeowners in need of our services. It offers a HUD-certified housing counseling program assisting with pre-purchase, credit, budgeting, financial management, and default delinquency counseling.
Foreclosure Prevention and Mitigation
Through its relationship with the South Side Community Federal Credit Union all members of the Center automatically qualify for membership into the credit union. This partnership enables members of the Center to have full access to the credit union’s affordable financial services. This program also establishes Faith-based and Youth Credit Union programs at churches, schools and youth development organizations.
Wealth and Wellness Program
This program promotes healthy living in a green economy. Through a partnership with healthcare providers, local food cooperatives, and the South Side Community Federal Credit Union, members can access free healthcare information /services, affordable food, and financial services. This program teaches community residents how to live right, eat well, and create a healthy, wealthy, and sustainable community. It also provides micro-business loans to green entrepreneurs.

The South Side Community Federal Credit Union
From the South Side Community Federal Credit Union Website: South Side Community Federal Credit Union (“SSCFCU”) is a not-for-profit, Federally chartered, low-income designated, community development credit union (CDCU). All of our accounts are insured up to $250,000.00 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). We are certified as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) by the U.S. Department of Treasury and we operate a HUD-approved housing counseling program. SSCFCU serves a membership base of 2000 with 7.2 million in assets after opening its doors in November 2003. Our mission is to equalize economic power and fight poverty by improving financial education and providing access to quality credit and savings services for our members
