The Center was organized in 2006 as a 501c3 nonprofit organization exclusively for charitable, educational and scientific purposes. More specifically, it was established to advance community economic development on Chicago’s historic South Side.
The mission of the South Side Community Economic Development Center (“The Center” or “SSCEDC”) is to build community capacity through a holistic and cooperative approach to financial education and economic development.
The Center offers a free 8-week financial education program for community residents.
Free home ownership classes and counseling to 1st time home buyers and existing home owners.
Our Wealth and Wellness Program promotes healthy living in a green economy.
